The Complimentary Spouse and I had just finished lunch in an upscale Chinese restaurant. Our server sets the check down on the table, along with two fortune cookies.
I crack mine open, pull out the paper, and read:

I show it to Britt, laugh, and say, “Simpsons did it.” That’s because I’m not the first married man to crack open a cookie that suggests infidelity.
In “The Last Temptation of Homer,” Homer feels the universe is conspiring to have him cheat on Marge with an attractive coworker named Mindy (played by Michelle Pfeiffer). He finds himself sharing a romantic meal with her on a business trip in Capitol City.
His fortune reads:

We then see what’s happening in the kitchen.

When the waiter returns to collect the credit card, I show him the fortune and ask if there’s a “stick with your husband” barrel in the back. I don’t understand his confusion. Why wouldn’t he get a reference to a small gag in a 34-year-old Simpsons episode? What are they teaching kids in school these days?
Fast forward to the end of the episode. Not only does Homer remain faithful to Marge, but he also finds a turkey behind his bed!

And what about Britt and me? Still going strong! No new romances. But, alas, no turkeys behind the bed.
