This weekend, LGBTQ from every corner of the planet are amassing for WorldPride 2025 in Branson, Mo.

Oh, wait. It’s Washington, D.C. It’s so easy to confuse the two.

This is the ninth WorldPride gathering since the inaugural one in Rome in 2000. The Complimentary Spouse and I are here. This is our second WorldPride—our first, in New York City in 2019, was epic. It was the 50th anniversary of Stonewall. There were millions of gay people, billions of rainbow flags, and trillions of gallons of glitter.

Here’s what it was like:

Britt and I wonder if this year’s WorldPride will have the same sense of exuberance and exhilaration as the one in 2019. Things are a little different for queer folks than they were six years ago, thanks in no small part to the cabal of bigots who have taken up residence in DC.
